Intended Use

The Accin™ Unipolar Head is intended to be implanted for use in the reconstruction of the femoral portion of severely disabled and / or very painful hip joints resulting from: Osteoarthritis; Rheumatoid Arthritis; Traumatic Arthritis; Avascular Necrosis. The device is only for use where sufficient sound bone to seat the prosthesis is present and for use with the Accin Hip Stems.

Device Story

The Accin™ Unipolar Head is a modular cobalt chrome endo-prosthesis femoral head. It is designed for surgical implantation to reconstruct the femoral portion of the hip joint. The device is intended for use in patients suffering from severe hip joint disability or pain caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis, or avascular necrosis. It must be used in conjunction with Accin Hip Stems and requires sufficient sound bone for proper seating. The device is implanted by an orthopedic surgeon in a clinical/hospital setting. It functions as a mechanical replacement component to restore joint function and alleviate pain.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Material: Cobalt chrome. Form factor: Modular femoral head. Intended for use with Accin Hip Stems. Cemented prosthesis.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients with severely disabled or painful hip joints due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis, or avascular necrosis. Contraindicated if insufficient sound bone is present to seat the prosthesis.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hip joint metal/polymer semi-constrained cemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a femoral component made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, and an acetabular resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and is limited to those prostheses intended for use with bone cement (§ 888.3027).
