Device Story

Accessory kit for SOVEREIGN® and SOVEREIGN® Compact phacoemulsification machines; used during cataract surgery. Kit includes tubing assembly with filter-protected flow restriction orifice. Function: minimizes vacuum surges in aspiration line following occlusion break at phaco tip. Used by ophthalmologists in surgical settings. Benefits: maintains chamber stability; prevents post-occlusion surge. Output: physical flow restriction within fluidics circuit.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance characteristics (flow resistance and chamber maintenance) verified as equivalent to predicate devices.

Technological Characteristics

Accessory kit containing tubing assembly with filter-protected flow restriction orifice. Materials, sterilization, and mode of operation are equivalent to predicate phacofragmentation system accessories. Standalone mechanical component.

Indications for Use

Indicated for use during cataract surgery to minimize vacuum surges in the aspiration line for patients undergoing phacoemulsification procedures using the SOVEREIGN® or SOVEREIGN® Compact phacoemulsification machines.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A phacofragmentation system is an AC-powered device with a fragmenting needle intended for use in cataract surgery to disrupt a cataract with ultrasound and extract the cataract.
