Intended Use

The Lenstec LC Injection System is intended for use in the implantation of the Softec HD, Softec I and Softec HD PS model Lenstec IOLs, as well as any IOL which has indicated for its use in its approved labeling, into the capsular bag following extracapsular extraction.

Device Story

The Lenstec LC Injection System is a manual, syringe-based surgical instrument used by ophthalmologists during cataract surgery. It facilitates the delivery of foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs) into the capsular bag. The system comprises a reusable titanium injector, a reusable plastic lens loader, and single-use disposable polypropylene cartridges with silicone cushions. The surgeon loads the IOL into the cartridge using the lens loader, then uses the injector to push the lens through the cartridge tip into the eye. The system offers different tip diameters (1.6mm and 2.4mm) and tip angulations (20° or 45°) to accommodate various IOL power ranges and surgical preferences. By enabling a smaller incision for lens insertion, the device aims to improve surgical outcomes and patient recovery. The device is intended for clinical use in an operating room setting.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence was established through non-clinical bench testing, including biocompatibility testing of all contact materials and performance testing of the system with Softec HD, Softec I, and Softec HD PS IOL models.

Technological Characteristics

System components: reusable titanium injector, reusable plastic lens loader, single-use medical grade polypropylene cartridges, and single-use medical grade silicone cushions. Manual operation. Autoclavable reusable components. Three cartridge configurations (LC 16, LC 1620, LC 2420) with 1.6mm or 2.4mm tip diameters and 20° or 45° tip angulations.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients undergoing extracapsular cataract extraction requiring implantation of Softec HD, Softec I, or Softec HD PS intraocular lenses (IOLs), or other IOLs labeled for use with this system.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An intraocular lens guide is a device intended to be inserted into the eye during surgery to direct the insertion of an intraocular lens and be removed after insertion is completed.
