Intended Use
The Innervision Ventricular Catheter with BioGlide is designed to be used with the Neuropen endoscope or other compatible Medtronic PS Medical endoscope when the physician desires direct vision from the tip of a ventricular catheter during its placement. Direct vision facilitates placement of the catheter tip at a specific intraventricular location. The catheter is designed to be used as the proximal component of a CSF-Flow Control Shunt for use in shunting cerebrospinal fluid from the ventricles of the brain into the right atrium of the heart or to the peritoneal cavity.
Device Story
Translucent silicone elastomer ventricular catheter with barium-impregnated stripe and BioGlide surface modification; features slit tip. Designed for use with Neuropen or compatible endoscopes to provide direct visualization during placement within brain ventricles. Functions as proximal component of CSF-Flow Control Shunt system. Used by neurosurgeons in clinical settings to facilitate precise catheter tip positioning. Direct visualization aids in navigating intraventricular anatomy, potentially improving placement accuracy and reducing complications associated with blind catheter insertion. Device serves as conduit for CSF drainage to peritoneal cavity or right atrium.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence based on design and material characteristics.
Technological Characteristics
Translucent silicone elastomer; barium-impregnated stripe; BioGlide surface modification; slit tip design. Mechanical device; no energy source or software.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients requiring cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting from the brain ventricles to the right atrium or peritoneal cavity, where direct visualization of the catheter tip placement is desired by the physician using a compatible endoscope.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A ventricular catheter is a device used to gain access to the cavities of the brain for injection of material into, or removal of material from, the brain.
