Intended Use

The CORTRAK™ System is an electrical device designed to aid qualified operators in the placement of VIASYS MedSystems feeding tubes of 8 FR or greater into the stomach or small bowel of patients requiring enteral feeding. Prior to commencing the delivery of food, confirmation of correct tube placement by acceptable hospital protocol is required.

Device Story

CORTRAK System aids clinicians in placing enteral feeding tubes. Device uses electromagnetic tracking technology to monitor tube tip position during insertion. System consists of a console, display, and specialized feeding tubes with integrated sensors. Operator navigates tube into stomach or small bowel while viewing real-time path on console screen. Output provides visual guidance to assist in correct placement. Final confirmation of tube position via standard hospital protocol (e.g., X-ray) remains mandatory before initiating feeding. Benefits include potential reduction in blind placement risks and improved procedural efficiency. Used in clinical settings by trained healthcare professionals.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence is based on technological characteristics and intended use.

Technological Characteristics

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring enteral feeding who need placement of VIASYS MedSystems feeding tubes (8 FR or greater) into the stomach or small bowel. For use by qualified operators.
