Intended Use

Device Story

Sterile, single-use endoscopic sphincterotome; consists of long plastic cannula with internal wire; distal wire segment exposed. Operated by physician during ERCP via endoscope accessory channel. High-frequency electrosurgical current passed through wire to open papilla roof; enables selective cannulation of biliary or pancreatic orifices. Facilitates ductal access and sphincterotomy; preloaded versions assist in bridging strictures. Device provides mechanical access and electrosurgical cutting capability; output is physical incision of tissue.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Testing included functional testing, rotation/orientation verification, electrosurgical accessory testing, wire guide compatibility, leakage testing, cutting wire joint strength, biocompatibility, and sterilization validation.

Technological Characteristics

Plastic cannula with internal electrosurgical wire; single-use; EO sterilized. Features include short-wire exchange, pre-slit breakthrough channel, handle rotation mechanism, and sphincterotome protector. Energy source: external electrosurgical unit (high-frequency current).

Indications for Use

You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. Various bench tests were included in the performance data, including functional testing, rotation verification, orientation verification, electrosurgical accessory testing, wire guide compatibility, leakage testing, cutting wire joint strength, biocompatibility testing and sterilization testing. ## Conclusion The non-clinical data confirms that the SureTome™ Sphincterotome meets the design input requirements based on the intended use and supports the conclusion that this device does not raise new questions of safety and/or effectiveness and is substantially equivalent to the predicate device, Fusion OMNI Sphincterotome (K172288, Wilson-Cook Medical) and the reference device Tri-Tome pc Triple Lumen Sphincterotome (K172665, Wilson-Cook Medical).
