## Indications for Use

The Pillar Palatal Implant System is intended for use in stiffening the soft palate tissue which may reduce the severity of snoring in some individuals.

## Device Story

Pillar Palatal Implant System treats snoring by stiffening soft palate tissue to reduce dynamic flutter. Device consists of permanent cylindrical implant made of braided polyester filaments and disposable delivery tool (handle and needle assembly). Physician uses delivery tool to position and place implant submucosally within soft palate. Implant remains in situ permanently to provide structural support. Procedure performed in clinical setting. Output is physical stiffening of palate; clinical benefit is potential reduction in snoring severity.

## Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; substantial equivalence based on identical design, materials, and intended use to the predicate device.

## Technological Characteristics

Implant: cylindrical braided polyester filaments. Delivery tool: handle and needle assembly. Permanent implant, disposable delivery tool. No software or electronic components.

## Regulatory Identification

Intraoral devices for snoring and intraoral devices for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are devices that are worn during sleep to reduce the incidence of snoring and to treat obstructive sleep apnea. The devices are designed to increase the patency of the airway and to decrease air turbulence and airway obstruction. The classification includes palatal lifting devices, tongue retaining devices, and mandibular repositioning devices.

## Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The special control for these devices is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Intraoral Devices for Snoring and/or Obstructive Sleep Apnea; Guidance for Industry and FDA.”
