Attributes
Software as a Medical Device, Pediatric
Intended Use
Indicated for central monitoring of multiple adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, and where the clinician decides to monitor cardiac arrhythmia of adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients to gain information for treatment, to monitor adequacy of treatment, or to exclude causes of symptoms.
Device Story
Philips SureSigns VSV (Vital Signs Viewer) is a central monitoring system designed for clinical environments. It aggregates physiological data from connected Philips SureSigns VM Series patient monitors. The system enables clinicians to remotely view vital signs and cardiac arrhythmia data for multiple patients simultaneously. By providing centralized oversight, the device assists healthcare providers in monitoring patient status, evaluating treatment adequacy, and identifying cardiac events. The system functions as a communication and display hub, allowing for efficient patient surveillance across a clinical unit. It does not alter the underlying physiological data but presents it to facilitate clinical decision-making and timely intervention.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Verification and validation activities included system-level tests, integration tests, environmental tests, and safety testing based on hazard analysis. Pass/Fail criteria were established against predicate device specifications, and results demonstrated substantial equivalence in functionality and reliability.
Technological Characteristics
Centralized physiological monitoring system. Connectivity: Networked communication with Philips SureSigns VM Series monitors. Software-based data aggregation and display. Functions as an arrhythmia detector and alarm system. Class II device.
Indications for Use
Indicated for central monitoring of multiple adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients; used when clinicians require cardiac arrhythmia monitoring to inform treatment decisions, assess treatment efficacy, or exclude symptom causes.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
The arrhythmia detector and alarm device monitors an electrocardiogram and is designed to produce a visible or audible signal or alarm when atrial or ventricular arrhythmia, such as premature contraction or ventricular fibrillation, occurs.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Arrhythmia Detector and Alarm” will serve as the special control. See § 870.1 for the availability of this guidance document.
