Other clinical supportive data (when a. and b. are not applicable): A Human Factors (HF) study was conducted to survey Accu-Chek Spirit insulin pump users and assess Accu-Chek Smart Pix's usability as it pertains to safe and effective use. The USA-based home use study, in which each subject used the Accu-Chek Smart Pix for two weeks, followed two similar ones conducted in Germany with a total of 45 device users. Representing 37 individuals' feedback, the report evaluated the English-language software user interface's usability during a 2-week use trial. All 37 study subjects currently use the Accu-Chek Spirit insulin pump and 32 of those individuals use Accu-Chek glucose meters compatible with Accu-Chek Smart Pix. The population sample included 24 men and 13 women with diabetes between the ages of 15 and 74 (average = 45) who have had diabetes for 1 to 56 years (average = 25). Accu-Chek Smart Pix received subjective ratings ranging between 2.6 and 4.1 (scale: 1 - 7: 1 = excellent, 7 = poor) in regards to numerous usability-related criteria. The product received the highest ratings in conjunction with the statements "I prefer graphs for data presentation" and "I could transfer data quickly from my insulin pump and/or glucose meter" (mean ratings of 2.6: 1 = complete agreement, 7 = complete disagreement, 62% agreement). The product received the lowest average rating (4.1 - placing it in the neutral range, 46% rated positively) for its user interaction qualities. Ultimately, some subjects regarded the Accu-Chek Smart Pix to be a helpful and usable tool. Conversely, a few subjects faced difficulties reading and analyzing uploaded data as well as utilizing the user manual. From a descriptive statistical perspective, USA subjects viewed the Accu-Chek Smart Pix less favorably than the European subjects who participated in the two previous studies that focused on a German version of the software. However, Roche's data collection effort was not structured to support inferential statistical analyses. Therefore, while the data appears to vary somewhat, there might not actually be a significant difference between the user populations' views of the device. As such, users in the USA and abroad might actually have an equivalent view of the device's usability.
