Indications for Use

The Inspiration® 7i / 5i Ventilator System is intended for use with patients having body weights in the range of 0.3kg to 200kg and Tidal Volumes of 5ml to 2000ml. The Inspiration® Ventilator System is to be used by healthcare professionals in hospitals or healthcare facilities and intrahospital transport. This product is intended for a wide range of patients from infant to adult and for a wide variety of clinical conditions. The intended patient population includes infant through adult patients who require pressurebased or volume-based continuous respiratory support with tidal volumes as low as 5 ml and inspiratory pressures as low as 1 cm H2O. The device is intended for use in hospital-type facilities, which provide respiratory care for patients requiring respiratory support. The device is intended for sale by or on the order of a physician only. The device is intended for operation by trained and qualified personnel.

Device Story

Inspiration 5i/7i is an electrically powered, microprocessor-controlled, software-driven ventilator providing continuous respiratory support via pressure/volume-based mandatory and spontaneous breaths. Input includes patient respiratory signals; device uses servo-controlled active inhalation/exhalation valves to deliver gas. Output includes real-time waveforms, loops, and monitored/trended parameters displayed on a flat-panel color LCD touchscreen. Used in hospitals/healthcare facilities by trained clinicians. Features include GUI updates, SNMP integration, and (7i model) volumetric/sidestream capnography. Device assists clinical decision-making by providing continuous monitoring of respiratory mechanics (compliance, resistance, tidal volumes, pressures). Benefits include life-sustaining respiratory support for neonatal through adult populations.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Compliance demonstrated with IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-2-12, and ASTM F1100-90 standards to verify durability and performance against predicate specifications.

Technological Characteristics

Electrically powered, microprocessor and servo-controlled ventilator. Features flat-panel color LCD, touchscreen, membrane keys, and dial. Gas delivery via servo-controlled active inhalation/exhalation valves. Connectivity: SNMP for data/settings. Power: AC (100-240V, 50-60Hz) with lead-acid or optional Li-ion battery. Sterilization: Not specified. Software: Microprocessor-controlled.

Indications for Use

Indicated for infant through adult patients (0.3kg to 200kg) requiring pressure-based or volume-based continuous respiratory support with tidal volumes 5ml-2000ml and inspiratory pressures as low as 1 cm H2O. Contraindicated in the presence of flammable anesthetics.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A continuous ventilator (respirator) is a device intended to mechanically control or assist patient breathing by delivering a predetermined percentage of oxygen in the breathing gas. Adult, pediatric, and neonatal ventilators are included in this generic type of device.
