Intended Use

Synthes Locking Calcaneal Plates are indicated for fractures and osteotomies of the calcaneus, including, but not limited to extraarticular, intra-articular, joint depression, tongue type and severely comminuted fractures.

Device Story

Synthes Locking Calcaneal Plates are orthopedic fixation devices designed for the lateral calcaneus. The plates feature 15 threaded screw holes accommodating 2.7 mm and 3.5 mm cortex screws and 3.0 mm locking screws. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings to stabilize complex calcaneal fractures and osteotomies. The device provides rigid internal fixation to support bone healing and restore structural integrity of the calcaneus. The plates are available in 69 mm and 76 mm lengths for right and left side applications.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data provided; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: 316L Stainless Steel, Ti-15Mo. Design: Locking plate with 15 threaded screw holes. Dimensions: 2.0 mm thickness, 69 mm and 76 mm lengths. Configuration: Lateral calcaneal application, left and right specific. Energy source: None (mechanical).

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring fixation for fractures and osteotomies of the calcaneus, including extra-articular, intra-articular, joint depression, tongue type, and severely comminuted fractures.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Single/multiple component metallic bone fixation appliances and accessories are devices intended to be implanted consisting of one or more metallic components and their metallic fasteners. The devices contain a plate, a nail/plate combination, or a blade/plate combination that are made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, stainless steel, and titanium, that are intended to be held in position with fasteners, such as screws and nails, or bolts, nuts, and washers. These devices are used for fixation of fractures of the proximal or distal end of long bones, such as intracapsular, intertrochanteric, intercervical, supracondylar, or condylar fractures of the femur; for fusion of a joint; or for surgical procedures that involve cutting a bone. The devices may be implanted or attached through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
