Spondylolisthesis Fracture Spinal Stenosis Deformities (i.e., scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis) Tumor Pseudoarthrosis Revision of previous failed fusion surgery

Device Story

Anterior cervical plate system for spinal stabilization; components include titanium alloy plates, screws, and locking mechanisms. Surgeon selects appropriate plate length; positions on anterior cervical spine; uses cannula, drill, and tap to prepare vertebral bodies; inserts screws; secures with locking plate. Used in clinical/surgical settings by physicians. Provides mechanical fixation to facilitate spinal fusion. Benefits include stabilization of cervical spine segments to address instability from various pathologies.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data provided. Mechanical equivalence supported by Finite Element Analysis (FEA) comparing stiffness and stress profiles against a predicate device.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Titanium 6Al-4V Eli alloy (ASTM F-136). Components: Plates, screws, locking plates, and surgical instruments (guides, drills, taps, drivers, benders). Principle: Mechanical fixation via anterior cervical plating. Connectivity: None. Sterilization: Not specified.

Indications for Use

Indicated for anterior screw fixation of the cervical spine (C2-C7) to stabilize the spine during solid fusion development in patients with degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, fracture, spinal stenosis, deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis), tumor, pseudoarthrosis, or revision of failed fusion.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A spinal intervertebral body fixation orthosis is a device intended to be implanted made of titanium. It consists of various vertebral plates that are punched into each of a series of vertebral bodies. An eye-type screw is inserted in a hole in the center of each of the plates. A braided cable is threaded through each eye-type screw. The cable is tightened with a tension device and it is fastened or crimped at each eye-type screw. The device is used to apply force to a series of vertebrae to correct “sway back,” scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine), or other conditions.
