Device attaches to MDI dispensing boot; uses heated thermistor to detect airflow, mechanical beam with strain gauge for canister actuation, and moving magnet for shake detection. Records date/time of shake, actuation, and inhalation. Data transmitted via infrared to docking station, then to IBM-compatible PC. Physician uses software to assess patient compliance and MDI technique. Provides audible beeps to remind patients of medication schedule and canister status.
