Intended Use
Advantage Windows Tissue Volume Option is intended to calculate the volume of any three dimensional structure from a set of CT images. The images are displayed and measured on the CT/MR Advantage Windows Diagnostic Workstation (K913770). The Tissue Volume Option will automate manual measurements and estimates that are currently made regarding the measure of volume of anatomy and pathology imaged with computed tomography.
Device Story
Software package for Advantage Windows Diagnostic Workstation (K913770); operates on Sun Sparc 20, Mod 40 or higher. Inputs: CT images transferred via DICOM or Ethernet. Operation: operator selects area of CT image; software automates volumetric calculation previously performed via manual distance tools. Output: volumetric measurement of selected anatomy/pathology. Used in clinical diagnostic settings by radiologists/technicians. Benefits: automates manual estimates; facilitates comparison of volumetric data across patient images.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data. Bench testing only.
Technological Characteristics
Software-only package; runs on Sun Sparc 20, Mod 40 or higher workstation. Connectivity via DICOM or Ethernet. Principle of operation based on Advantage Windows 3D software platform.
Indications for Use
Indicated for calculating volume of 3D structures from CT images for anatomy and pathology assessment.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A magnetic resonance diagnostic device is intended for general diagnostic use to present images which reflect the spatial distribution and/or magnetic resonance spectra which reflect frequency and distribution of nuclei exhibiting nuclear magnetic resonance. Other physical parameters derived from the images and/or spectra may also be produced. The device includes hydrogen-1 (proton) imaging, sodium-23 imaging, hydrogen-1 spectroscopy, phosphorus-31 spectroscopy, and chemical shift imaging (preserving simultaneous frequency and spatial information).
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). A magnetic resonance imaging disposable kit intended for use with a magnetic resonance diagnostic device only is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 892.9.
