Device Story

ArthroTAK Tendon Anchor Kit consists of PEEK anchor (proximal tack and distal bullet) and inserter; used for soft-tissue to bone fixation. Inserter comes pre-loaded with implant; optional single-use bone punch creates pilot holes in hard bone. Device used by surgeons in clinical settings for orthopedic repairs (shoulder, foot/ankle, knee, hand/wrist, elbow). Implant secures soft tissue to bone to facilitate healing. Device is mechanically operated; no software or electronic components.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Testing included insertion, pullout, and cyclic fatigue/pull-to-failure performed in accordance with ASTM F3690-24 and methods cleared under K252635.

Technological Characteristics

Material: Poly-ether-etherketone (PEEK). Components: Proximal tack and distal bullet. Principle: Mechanical bone fixation fastener. Testing standard: ASTM F3690-24. No software or energy source.

Indications for Use

Indicated for adult patients requiring soft-tissue to bone fixation in the shoulder, foot/ankle, knee, hand/wrist, and elbow for various orthopedic repair and reconstruction procedures.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.

You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database available at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Please note: CDRH does not evaluate information related to contract liability warranties. We remind you, however, that device labeling must be truthful and not misleading. The ArthroTAK implant is a poly-ether-etherketone (PEEK) anchor comprised of two components, a proximal tack and distal bullet. The ArthroTAK inserter comes pre-loaded with the ArthroTAK implant and is designed to enable insertion of the ArthroTAK implant into the bone. A single-use bone punch is available and can be used to create a pilot hole for insertion in hard bone. Intended Use/Indications for Use 21 CFR 807.92(a)(5) {5} The ArthroTAK Tendon Anchor Kit is intended to be used for soft-tissue to bone fixation in the shoulder, foot/ankle, knee, hand/wrist, and elbow in the following procedures: - Shoulder: Rotator Cuff Repair, Bankart Repair, SLAP Lesion Repair, Biceps Tenodesis, Acromio-Clavicular Separation Repair, Deltoid Repair, Capsular Shift or Capsulolabral Reconstruction. -Foot/Ankle: Lateral Stabilization, Medial Stabilization, Hallux Valgus Reconstruction, Mid-foot Reconstruction, Metatarsal Ligament Repair/Tendon Repair and Bunionectomy. -Knee: Medial Collateral Ligament Repair, Lateral Collateral Ligament Repair, Patellar Tendon Repair, Posterior Oblique Ligament Repair, and Iliotibial Band Tenodesis. -Hand/Wrist: Scapholunate Ligament Reconstruction, Ulnar or Radial Collateral Ligament Reconstruction. -Elbow: Biceps Tendon Reattachment, Tennis Elbow Repair, Ulnar or Radial Collateral Ligament Reconstruction, Lateral Epicondylitis repair. ## Indications for Use Comparison 21 CFR 807.92(a)(5) The ArthroTAK device is proposing to expand the indications for use to additional anatomical locations, including the knee, foot & ankle, hand & wrist, and elbow, as well as expanding indications in the shoulder. The proposed indications for use are in-line with the clinical applications of similar bone anchors currently cleared and marketed, including the reference device, K101823. ## Technological Comparison 21 CFR 807.92(a)(6) The device has identical technological characteristics, including design, material, chemical composition, and principle of operation as the predicate device. ## Non-Clinical and/or Clinical Tests Summary & Conclusions 21 CFR 807.92(b) In support of a substantial equivalence determination, the following design verification testing was performed in accordance with ASTM F3690-24: - Insertion Testing - Pullout Testing - Cyclic Fatigue & Pull-to-Failure The testing was performed using the same test methods submitted and cleared under the ArthroTAK Tendon Anchor Kit, K252635 or in accordance with FDA recognized standards. The ArthroTAK Tendon Anchor Kit is identical to the predicate in design, materials, manufacturing, sterilization, packaging, operating principles, and intended use. The proposed indications do not raise new questions of safety or effectiveness, and the subject device is substantially equivalent to the predicate device.
