Indications for Use

Codman® Distal Peritoneal Catheter, Barium Open End is indicated for use with a proximal valve in the treatment of hydrocephalus where ventriculoperitoneal shunting is the procedure of choice. The HOLTER Peritoneal Catheter (SALMON Design) is indicated for use with a HOLTER Valve in the treatment of hydrocephalus where the ventriculoperitoneal shunting technique is the procedure of choice.

Device Story

Sterile, single-use, radiopaque silicone peritoneal drainage catheters; used as part of CSF shunting system. Catheters attach to distal end of proximal valve; distal end implanted into patient's peritoneal cavity. Excess CSF regulated by valve drains through catheter into peritoneal cavity for reabsorption into bloodstream. Used by neurosurgeons in clinical settings. Subject device updates include MR Conditional labeling, updated symbols per ISO 15223-1, and addition of Patient Implant Card/Patient Information Leaflet per FDA guidance.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical studies were required. Substantial equivalence supported by bench testing, including MRI safety testing per ASTM F2052, ASTM F2213, ASTM F2182, and ASTM F2119.
