AQUARIUS™ Extension Feeding Set

KNT

Device Description Summary

21 CFR 807.92(a)(4)

The danumed Extension Set is an extension set, enteral tubing extension or safety connector that is used to transfer fluids and enteral nutrition between a gastrostomy button and an enteral syringe or enteral giving set. From the giving set, the enteral nutrition or fluid is passed via the extension set into the gastrostomy button and thus into the stomach of the artificially fed patient. The Extension Set is a single patient use product that is used by the patient up to a maximum of 14 days. After food administration the Extension Set is disconnected from the button and removed. It is cleaned of food residues with clear warm water after each use and put aside.

Intended Use/Indications for Use

21 CFR 807.92(a)(5)

This enteral extension set may only be used for enteral feeding and/or to administer medications via the stomach. It may only be used on patients who have a low profile gastrostomy button (button) inserted. It serves to connect the button and feeding set or enteral syringes. The enteral extension set may only be used on one patient (single-patient product) and must be replaced after 14 days.

Indications for Use Comparison

21 CFR 807.92(a)(5)

Although differing in wording, both indications for use statements contain the same statement that the product is an extension set for a Gastrostomy Button. Both devices are intended to be used as an extension set for gastric feeding devices to provide delivery of feeding media from nutrition reservoir into a patient feeding tube. Slightl differences in wording of the indications for use are not critical to the intended use of the device, the differences do not affect the safety and performance of the device when used as labeled.

Technological Comparison

21 CFR 807.92(a)(6)

{5}

K260110/S001 Page 2 of 2

Overall technological characteristics are the same:

The general design and composition of the devices are the same: Both extension sets consist of a tube, a distal and a proximal connector and a tube clamp. At the proximal end there is either a single ENFit connector or a Y-ENFit connector. Regarding the materials used for the devices, no difference can be stated.

Nevertheless, there are three minor differences in the design of the proposed and the primary predicate device:

1. The ENFit connector(s) at the proximal end are slightly different, since the danumed Extension Sets come with the ENSwivel innovation.

2. For the danumed Extension Set is an additional tubing length of 5cm / 2in available.

3. There is a difference in the labeling on the subject device, as already mentioned above.

However, these three aspects do not affect safety or effectiveness of the danumed Extension Set. These differences do not have effect on the patient and do not increase risks associated with the use of the device. Both the subject device's and the predicate device's properties have been successfully tested per applicable standards and based also relevant biocompatibility testing. The identified small differences will not raise new questions on the safety and effectiveness of the proposed device as evidence by the provided Substantial Equivalence Comparison.

## Non-Clinical and/or Clinical Tests Summary & Conclusions 21 CFR 807.92(b)

Performance Bench Testing for the danumed Extension Set was conducted based on the requirements of DIN EN ISO 20695:2020 (corresponding to FDA recognized standard ISO 20695:2020, recognition number: 9-138). Following testing was carried out:

- Performance after cleaning
- Resistance to liquid leakage under pressure
- Strength properties of the Tritan connector
