Indications for Use

The Momentum Acetabular Cup System is intended for use in total hip arthroplasty in skeletally mature patients for the following conditions: 1. Non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease, including osteoarthritis and avascular necrosis. 2. Rheumatoid arthritis. 3. Correction of functional deformity. 4. Treatment of non-union, femoral neck fracture, and trochanteric fractures of the proximal femur with head involvement, unmanageable by other techniques. 5. Revision of previously failed total hip arthroplasty. 6. Dislocation risks. The Momentum Acetabular Cup System implants are single use implants intended for cementless use only.

Device Story

Momentum Acetabular Cup System is a modular hip prosthesis for primary or revision total hip arthroplasty; used in cementless procedures. System components include acetabular shells, fixed liners (XPE or E-XPE), dual mobility metal liners, E-XPE mobile bearings, and screw hole covers. Device is implanted by orthopedic surgeons in clinical settings. Components interface with compatible femoral heads and stems to restore hip joint function. Benefits include improved joint mobility and stability for patients with degenerative or traumatic hip conditions. System provides fixed or dual mobility options to address specific patient anatomy and dislocation risk profiles.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical tests were performed. Safety and effectiveness were established through non-clinical bench testing, including Range of Motion (ISO 21535), Jumping Distance analysis, Articulating Surface Finish (ISO 7206-2), Impingement (ASTM F2582), Disassembly (ASTM F1820), Wear (ISO 14242-1), Deformation (ISO 7206-12), Shell Fatigue (ASTM F3090), Fretting Corrosion (ASTM F1875), Ti plasma spray coating characterization, and USP<161> bacterial endotoxin testing.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Ti-6Al-4V (ASTM F136/ISO 5832-3) with CP Ti plasma spray (ASTM F1580); Co-Cr-Mo (ASTM F75); UHMWPE/XPE/E-XPE (ASTM F648, ASTM F2695, ISO 5834). Design: Cementless acetabular shell with optional screw holes, fixed or dual mobility liners. Sterilization: Identical to predicates. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for skeletally mature patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty for non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis), rheumatoid arthritis, functional deformity correction, non-union, femoral neck/trochanteric fractures, revision of failed arthroplasty, or dislocation risks.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hip joint metal/ceramic/polymer semi-constrained cemented or nonporous uncemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. This device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. The two-part femoral component consists of a femoral stem made of alloys to be fixed in the intramedullary canal of the femur by impaction with or without use of bone cement. The proximal end of the femoral stem is tapered with a surface that ensures positive locking with the spherical ceramic (aluminium oxide, A12 03 ) head of the femoral component. The acetabular component is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene reinforced with nonporous metal alloys, and used with or without bone cement.

You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database available at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Please note: CDRH does not evaluate information related to contract liability warranties. We remind you, however, that device labeling must be truthful and not misleading. If your device is classified (see above) into either class II (Special Controls) or class III (PMA), it may be subject to additional controls. Existing major regulations affecting your device can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Parts 800 to 898.
