Device Story

Zimmer Biomet OSS™ Orthopedic Salvage System OsseoTi® Sleeves and Augments are orthopedic implants for proximal femoral, distal femoral, total femur, or proximal tibial replacements and resurfacing. Used in surgical settings by orthopedic surgeons to treat bone loss, deformity, tumor resection, trauma, and revision arthroplasty. Subject device features a reduction in OsseoTi thickness to 1.5mm. Implants provide structural support and bone-interfacing surfaces to restore joint function and stability. Benefits include addressing complex anatomical defects and salvage scenarios where standard arthroplasty is insufficient.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Bench testing only. Testing included OsseoTi lattice characterization (ASTM F1147, F1044, F1978, F1854, F1160, F3001), proximal femoral connection loading (ISO 7206-4), manufacturing validations (ASTM F3001, F1854, E8/E8M, E539, E1409, E1447, E1941, E2371), cleaning validations (ISO 10993-5), and dry heat biological upgrade validations.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hip joint metal/polymer semi-constrained cemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. The device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a femoral component made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum, and an acetabular resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and is limited to those prostheses intended for use with bone cement (§ 888.3027).
