Indications for Use

Volnewmer™ is intended for use in dermatologic procedures for electrocoagulation and hemostasis of soft tissue.

Device Story

Volnewmer™ is a noninvasive monopolar radiofrequency (RF) therapy system used in dermatologic procedures. The device delivers 6.78 MHz RF energy (max 115 W) to soft tissue via a reusable tip for selective coagulation, while simultaneously providing conductive epidermal cooling. The system includes a console, handpieces, treatment tips, return pad, and footswitch. The subject device introduces a software-controlled 'Repeat Mode' for automated, continuous shot delivery. The device is operated by a clinician in a clinical setting. The healthcare provider uses an LCD touchscreen to control treatment parameters. The device benefits patients by providing controlled thermal effects for coagulation and hemostasis.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Evidence includes electrical safety (IEC 60601-1, 60601-1-2, 60601-2-2), biocompatibility (ISO 10993-1), and software verification/validation per FDA guidance. Thermal effect and safety in-vivo testing were conducted to support the performance profile.

Technological Characteristics

Monopolar RF therapy system; 6.78 MHz output frequency; 115 W max power. Features water-based epidermal cooling. Tip sizes: 0.25, 3, 4, and 16 cm². User interface: LCD touchscreen. Software-controlled operation with 'Repeat Mode'. Compliance: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-2-2, ISO 10993-1.

You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database available at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration. Summary of Non-Clinical Testing Verification/validation activities from non-clinical testing as described below demonstrate that the differences do not raise any new issues of safety or effectiveness of the subject device compared to the predicate device. EMC and Electrical safety of the subject device was tested in compliance with IEC 60601-1 Edition 3.2; IEC 60601-1-2 Edition 4.0 and IEC 60601-2-2 Edition 6.0 Thermal Effect & Safety In-Vivo Test were conducted for evaluating the safety and performance profile of the subject device. The test results support the substantial equivalence. Bench testing was performed to ensure that the subject device performs as intended and meets design specifications. Biocompatibility testing was performed in compliance with ISO 10993-1 and FDA Guidance “Use of International Standard ISO 10993-1, ‘Biological evaluation of medical devices - Part 1: Evaluation and testing within a risk management process’” (issued on September 8, 2023) to demonstrate biocompatibility of the patient-contacting components of the device. Software Verification and Validation testing were conducted and documented as recommended by FDA’s Guidance for Industry and FDA Staff, “Content of Premarket Submissions for Device Software Functions” (issued on June 14, 2023). The software documentation level for the subject device is considered as ‘Enhanced Documentation’. Cybersecurity testing was conducted, and documentation was provided as recommended by FDA guidance “Cybersecurity in Medical Devices: Quality System Considerations and Content of Premarket Submissions” (issued on June 27, 2025). ## 10. Final Conclusion The Volnewmer™ shares the same indications for use, fundamental scientific technology, design and functional features as the predicate device. The reference device is used to support the subject device repeated use technological characteristic. Performance testing results demonstrate that the Volnewmer™ safety and performance are substantially equivalent to and as safe and effective as the predicate device as indicated for use.
