Intended Use

Device Story
Picosecond Laser Device (PF131-BI) is a multi-wavelength, pulsed laser system for surgical and aesthetic dermatology. Device components include main unit, light guide arm, handpiece, foot switch, and water circulation cooling system. Operates by delivering 1064 nm and 532 nm laser pulses (300-500ps duration) to target tissue. Used by physicians in clinical settings for tattoo removal and treatment of benign pigmented lesions. Output parameters (fluence, spot size, repetition rate) are controlled by the operator via the main unit interface. Clinical benefit derived from targeted photomechanical disruption of pigment/ink particles. Device is prescription-only.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Device performance verified against IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC/TS 60601-4-2, IEC 60601-2-22, and IEC 60825-1. Biocompatibility testing conducted per ISO 10993-5 (cytotoxicity), ISO 10993-10 (sensitization), and ISO 10993-23 (irritation).
Technological Characteristics
Multi-wavelength pulsed laser system (1064nm/532nm). Pulse duration: 300-500ps. Repetition rate: 1-10 Hz. Spot sizes: 2-10mm. Max fluence: 15.91 J/cm² (1064nm) and 7.95 J/cm² (532nm) at 2mm. Includes water circulation cooling system. Complies with IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-22, and IEC 60825-1 standards.
Indications for Use
Indicated for tattoo removal and treatment of benign pigmented lesions. 1064nm: Fitzpatrick skin types I-VI (black, brown, green, blue, purple tattoos) and types I-IV (pigmented lesions). 532nm: Fitzpatrick skin types I-III (red, yellow, orange tattoos) and types I-IV (pigmented lesions).

We have reviewed your section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database available at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
