Intended Use

The Skin Closure System is intended for topical application only to hold closed easily approximated skin edges of wounds from surgical incisions, including incisions from minimally invasive surgery, and simple thoroughly cleansed, trauma- induced lacerations. The Skin Closure System should be used in conjunction with, but not in place of, deep dermal stitches. Additionally, the adjunct wound closure device component maintains temporary skin edge alignment along the length of the wound during application of the liquid adhesive.

Device Story

CM00622 LINC is a sterile, single-use topical skin closure system; consists of a liquid adhesive (2-octyl cyanoacrylate with D&C Violet No. 2) in a crushable glass ampoule within a pen applicator, and a self-adhering polyester mesh. Used by clinicians to close surgical incisions up to 20 cm and trauma-induced lacerations. Operation: clinician applies mesh to skin edges for temporary alignment; manually compresses applicator body to break ampoule; applies liquid adhesive over mesh. Adhesive polymerizes within minutes to form a physical barrier to microbial penetration for up to 7 days. Acts as an adjunct to deep dermal sutures. Benefits include temporary skin edge alignment and physical wound protection.

Clinical Evidence

No human clinical data provided. Evidence consists of bench testing and an animal wound healing study. Bench testing included peel/shear adhesion, tensile properties, lap-shear strength, T-peel adhesion, wound closure strength, adhesive degradation, heat of polymerization, viscosity, dry time, microbial barrier testing, and flow control. Biocompatibility testing performed per ISO 10993-1, including cytotoxicity, sensitization, intracutaneous reactivity, pyrogenicity, acute systemic toxicity, and implantation.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: 2-octyl cyanoacrylate adhesive, D&C Violet #2 colorant, quaternary ammonium salt accelerant, polyester mesh with pressure-sensitive adhesive. Form factor: single-use pen applicator with internal glass ampoule. Sterilization: sterile. Standards: ASTM D3330, D3654, D882, F2255, F2256, F2258, F2458. No software or electronic components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for topical approximation of easily approximated skin edges of surgical incisions (including minimally invasive) and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma-induced lacerations. Must be used with deep dermal stitches. Not indicated for puncture wounds.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A tissue adhesive with adjunct wound closure device intended for the topical approximation of skin is a device indicated for topical application only to hold closed easily approximated skin edges of wounds from surgical incisions, including punctures from minimally invasive surgery, and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma-induced lacerations. It may be used in conjunction with, but not in place of, deep dermal stitches. Additionally, the adjunct wound closure device component maintains temporary skin edge alignment along the length of wound during application of the liquid adhesive.

It is provided in a single-use applicator packaged in a rigid blister. The applicator is composed of a crushable glass ampoule contained within a pen applicator with an attached applicator tip. As applied to skin, the liquid topical skin adhesive is slightly more viscous than water and polymerizes within minutes. In vitro studies have shown that following polymerization, CM00622 LINC acts as a physical barrier (for up to 7 days) to microbial penetration as long as the polymerized liquid topical skin adhesive film remains intact. Clinical studies were not conducted to demonstrate microbial barrier properties and a correlation between microbial barrier properties and a reduction in infection have not been established. CM00622 LINC also incorporates a self-adhering mesh that is applied to the approximated skin edges to provide temporary skin edge alignment of incisions up to 20 cm in length until the liguid topical skin adhesive is applied to achieve skin closure. ### Indications for Use CM00622 LINC is intended for topical application only to hold closed easily approximated skin edges of wounds from surgical incisions, and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma-induced lacerations. CM00622 LINC should be used in conjunction with, but not in place of, deep dermal stitches. Additionally, the adjunct wound closure device component maintains temporary skin edge alignment along the length of the wound during application of the liquid adhesive. ## Comparison of Technological Characteristics with the Predicate Device The technological characteristics of the CM00622 LINC Skin Closure System and the predicate device are similar, in that they both contain the same technological characteristics: - Adhesive: 2-octyl cyanoacrylate based adhesive with D&C Violet #2 colorant - .
