The system is also indicated for conversion from an anatomic to reverse shoulder prosthesis without the removal of a well-fixed INHANCE humeral stem. - A severely painful, disabling, arthritic joint - Fractures of the humeral head (with Short Humeral Stems) - Fractures of the humeral head and proximal humerus (with Standard or Long Stems) - Revisions of previously failed shoulder joint replacements Fixation Methods The humeral stem is intended for cemented or cementless use. The glenoid baseplate components are intended for cementless application with the addition of screw fixation.

Device Story

The INHANCE Shoulder System is a modular orthopedic implant set for shoulder arthroplasty. This submission introduces sterile, single-use surgical instrumentation to support the existing implant system. The instruments are used by orthopedic surgeons in an operating room setting to prepare the surgical site (bone/tissue) for the implantation of humeral stems, stemless anchors, and glenoid components. The instruments facilitate the mechanical preparation of the humerus and glenoid. The system includes various titanium alloy and cobalt-chromium implants. The single-use instruments are provided sterile to eliminate the need for hospital reprocessing. The healthcare provider uses these tools to ensure proper fit and fixation of the implants, which are designed to restore joint function and alleviate pain in patients with degenerative, traumatic, or revision-related shoulder conditions.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by non-clinical testing, including design validation in cadavers and bone analogue materials, biocompatibility assessments per ISO 10993-1, shelf-life evaluation per ISO 11607, and sterilization validation per ISO 11137.

Technological Characteristics

System comprises titanium alloy and cobalt-chromium implants with Cross-linked, Vitamin E UHMWPE components. Instruments are single-use, sterile, and designed for bone/tissue contact (<24 hours). Sterilization via VDmax method (ISO 11137-1/2) to SAL 10^-6. Biocompatibility per ISO 10993-1. Shelf-life established at five years per ISO 11607-1/2.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring anatomic total, hemi-shoulder, or reverse total shoulder replacement. Anatomic indications: osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthrosis, avascular necrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, revision, functional deformity, and humeral head/proximal humerus fractures. Reverse indications: gross rotator cuff deficiency, severely painful/disabling arthritic joint, fractures, and revision of failed replacements. Requires functional deltoid muscle and suitable anatomy. Contraindications: none explicitly stated beyond requirement for functional deltoid and anatomical suitability.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A shoulder joint metal/polymer/metal nonconstrained or semi-constrained porous-coated uncemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a shoulder joint. The device limits movement in one or more planes. It has no linkage across-the-joint. This generic type of device includes prostheses that have a humeral component made of alloys such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (Co-Cr-Mo) and titanium-aluminum-vanadium (Ti-6Al-4V) alloys, and a glenoid resurfacing component made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, or a combination of an articulating ultra-high molecular weight bearing surface fixed in a metal shell made of alloys such as Co-Cr-Mo and Ti-6Al-4V. The humeral component and glenoid backing have a porous coating made of, in the case of Co-Cr-Mo components, beads of the same alloy or commercially pure titanium powder, and in the case of Ti-6Al-4V components, beads or fibers of commercially pure titanium or Ti-6Al-4V alloy, or commercially pure titanium powder. The porous coating has a volume porosity between 30 and 70 percent, an average pore size between 100 and 1,000 microns, interconnecting porosity, and a porous coating thickness between 500 and 1,500 microns. This generic type of device is designed to achieve biological fixation to bone without the use of bone cement.
