Intended Use

The GS Medical AnyPlus® PEEK Cage System is indicated for use in skeletally mature patients with degenerative disc disease (DDD) of the cervical spine with accompanying radicular symptoms at one disc level. DDD is defined as discogenic pain with degeneration of the disc confirmed by patient history and radiographic studies. GS Medical The GS Medical AnyPlus® PEEK Cage System is used to facilitate intervertebral body fusion in the cervical spine at the C3 to C7 disc levels using autograft bone. GS Medical The GS Medical AnyPlus® PEEK Cage System is to be used with supplemental fixation. Patients should have at least six (6) weeks of non- operative treatment prior to treatment with an intervertebral cage.

Device Story

Intervertebral body fusion device; restores intervertebral space height after disc resection; facilitates fusion in cervical spine (C3-C7). Implant features open architecture for autograft bone packing; available in various heights and lordotic configurations. Used by surgeons in clinical settings; requires supplemental fixation. Radiolucent PEEK body with radio-opaque Tantalum markers allows X-ray visualization for placement verification. Single-use device.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: PEEK (ASTM F2026:17), Unalloyed Tantalum (ASTM F560-17), Wrought Stainless Steel (ASTM F899-19). Design: Open architecture cage for bone graft. Testing: ASTM F2077-11 (static/dynamic axial compression, compression-shear, torsion, expulsion) and ASTM F2267-04 (subsidence). Sterile and non-sterile options.

Indications for Use

Indicated for skeletally mature patients with cervical degenerative disc disease (DDD) at one level (C3-C7) with radicular symptoms. DDD defined as discogenic pain confirmed by history/radiography. Requires autograft bone and supplemental fixation. Patients must have failed at least 6 weeks of non-operative treatment.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

An intervertebral body fusion device is an implanted single or multiple component spinal device made from a variety of materials, including titanium and polymers. The device is inserted into the intervertebral body space of the cervical or lumbosacral spine, and is intended for intervertebral body fusion.

Special Controls

*Classification.* (1) Class II (special controls) for intervertebral body fusion devices that contain bone grafting material. The special control is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Intervertebral Body Fusion Device.” See § 888.1(e) for the availability of this guidance document.(2) Class III (premarket approval) for intervertebral body fusion devices that include any therapeutic biologic (e.g., bone morphogenic protein). Intervertebral body fusion devices that contain any therapeutic biologic require premarket approval. (c) *Date premarket approval application (PMA) or notice of product development protocol (PDP) is required.* Devices described in paragraph (b)(2) of this section shall have an approved PMA or a declared completed PDP in effect before being placed in commercial distribution.
