Intended Use

GlideScope® BFlex™ Single-Use bronchoscopes are intended to work with a video monitor, in conjunction with non-powered endoscopic accessories and other ancillary equipment, for endoscopy within the airways and tracheobronchial tree.

Device Story

The GlideScope BFlex 5.8 is a single-use, flexible bronchoscope designed for airway procedures. It functions as part of a system including a reusable video monitor and cable. The device features a distal tip with an integrated camera and LED light source, allowing real-time visualization of the tracheobronchial tree. A suction button and tip maneuverability controls are provided for the operator. The device is used in hospital settings by clinicians to navigate airways and facilitate the use of non-powered endoscopic accessories. The video monitor displays the camera feed, assisting the clinician in diagnostic or therapeutic airway interventions. The single-use nature of the bronchoscope eliminates the need for reprocessing, reducing cross-contamination risks. The 5.8mm diameter model is specifically sized for use with endotracheal tubes having a minimum internal diameter of 7.0mm and endoscopic accessories with a minimum working channel width of 3.0mm.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data was required or provided. Substantial equivalence was supported by bench testing, including system requirements, electrical safety (AAMI/ANSI ES60601-1, IEC 60601-2-18), electromagnetic compatibility (ANSI AAMI IEC 60601-1-2), optical testing (ISO 8600-1, -3, -4), biocompatibility (ISO 10993-1), aging performance, sterile packaging integrity, and cleaning testing.

Technological Characteristics

Flexible endoscope; 5.8mm insertion tube diameter; 3.0mm working channel; 0° direction of view; 120° diagonal field of view; 5-50mm depth of field; 640x480 resolution; LED light source; sterile (EO); rechargeable lithium-ion battery (in monitor). Complies with ISO 8600-1, ISO 8600-3, ISO 8600-4, and ISO 10993-1.

Indications for Use

Indicated for use in adult patients in a hospital environment for endoscopy within the airways and tracheobronchial tree.

Regulatory Classification
