Device Story
BRAVOS Afterloader System is a computer-controlled remote electro/mechanical device for HDR brachytherapy. It uses a high-activity Iridium-192 source encapsulated in a steel capsule, fixed to a stainless-steel cable. The system automatically positions the source within applicators inserted into the patient's tumor site. Transfer Guide Tubes provide the conduit for the source cable; the Length Assessment Device determines the approximate length of the applicator channel before definitive verification. Operated by clinical staff in a treatment environment, the system uses the Jaguar control software (v2.1) to manage treatment plans, including multi-part plans, and emergency drive behaviors. The device benefits patients by enabling precise, remote-controlled radiation delivery to tumor sites while minimizing clinician radiation exposure.

We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. Although this letter refers to your product as a device, please be aware that some cleared products may instead be combination products. The 510(k) Premarket Notification Database located at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm identifies combination product submissions. The purpose of this Special 510(k) submission is to provide details on the updated BRAVOS Afterloader System which is a part of the Varian's BRAVOS Afterloader Family (K181903) for which we are claiming substantial equivalence. There have been no updates to the accessories Transfer Guide Tubes (TGT) and Length Assessment Device (LAD) since the previous submission (K181903). The indications for use and the intended use are identical in the subject device as for the predicate.
Note: Varian's updated BRAVOS Afterloader System was developed under the project name "G3" and "MR1" and the control software under the project name "Jaguar" which will be referenced in the design documentation as such.

Varian's BRAVOS Afterloader Family which consists of the updated BRAVOS Afterloader System is substantially equivalent to the predicate device (K181903). Compared to the predicate device, the basic operation and technological characteristics are substantially the same. The above changes do not affect the intended use or indications for use of the BRAVOS Afterloader System.
No animal studies or clinical tests have been included in this pre-market submission.
