Intended Use

The Partial Knee Application (PKA), for use with the Mako System, is intended to assist the surgeon in providing software defined spatial boundaries for orientation and reference information to anatomical structures during orthopedic procedures. Device Story

Mako System with Partial Knee Application (PKA) is a stereotactic instrument for orthopedic surgery; includes robotic arm, integrated cutting system, optical detector, computer, and planning laptop. System uses patient CT data for pre-surgical planning and intraoperative navigation. Robotic arm acts as intelligent tool guide; provides haptic guidance by passively constraining bone preparation within software-defined spatial boundaries. Used in OR by surgeons to assist in implant placement. Output consists of visual navigation and haptic feedback to ensure accurate resection. Benefits include improved surgical precision and implant alignment.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance evaluated via sub-system software functional testing, implant visual/boundary/stereotactic verification, resection accuracy verification, full system mock procedure run-throughs, and full system cadaver validation.
