Intended Use

The GFS Ultimate are indicated for use in the fixation of ligaments and tendons in patients requiring ligament or tendon repair.

Device Story

GFS Ultimate is a ligament retention device used for fixation of ligaments and tendons during orthopedic repair procedures. The device consists of medical-grade titanium and UHMWPE suture. It features an adjustable loop length design. The device is provided sterile to the clinician. During surgery, the device is used to secure soft tissue to bone. Performance is evaluated through mechanical testing, including cyclic loading and ultimate failure strength, to ensure it meets the requirements for ligament and tendon fixation. The device is substantially equivalent to the predicate Parcus GFS, with the adjustable loop length modification not impacting safety or efficacy.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Evaluation included worst-case configuration testing for strength and elongation under cyclic loading and ultimate failure conditions. Results demonstrated substantial equivalence to the predicate device. LAL testing was performed to assess pyrogenicity.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: medical-grade titanium and UHMWPE suture. Design: ligament retention device with adjustable loop length. Sterilization: provided sterile. Energy source: none (mechanical).

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring ligament or tendon repair for the fixation of ligaments and tendons.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
