Intended Use

Components of the Signature Orthopaedics hip replacement range are intended to replace a hip joint where bone stock is sufficient to support the implant. Signature Orthopaedics' constrained liner components are indicated particularly for patients at high risk of hip dislocation due to a history of prior dislocation, bone loss, joint or soft tissue laxity, neuromuscular disease or intraoperative instability. Signature Orthopaedics' Evolve UniPolar Head and BiPolar Head are intended for hemi-hip arthroplasty only, where the natural acetabulum does not require replacement. The Evolve UniPolar Head are indicated for bone fractures or pathologies involving only the femoral head/neck and/or proximal femur, such as: - Acute femoral head or neck fracture . - . Device Story

Origin Coxa Vara Hip Stem is a prosthetic femoral component for hip arthroplasty; used in orthopedic surgery to replace diseased or damaged hip joints. Device features straight, tapered titanium alloy stem with lateral chamfer, vertical/horizontal grooves for stability, and specific neck angle for coxa vara patients. Implanted via cementless fixation; provides structural support for hip joint. Surgeon selects device based on patient anatomy and pathology; output is physical restoration of hip joint function. Benefits include pain relief and improved mobility for patients with degenerative or traumatic hip conditions.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Engineering evaluations and femoral stem/neck fatigue testing were conducted to verify performance. Evaluations demonstrated the device presents a greater challenge to fatigue testing than the predicate Origin Hip Stem (K121297), with results supporting substantial equivalence.

Technological Characteristics

Material: Titanium alloy (ASTM F136). Coating: Hydroxyapatite (HA) per ISO 13779-2. Design: Straight, tapered stem with lateral chamfer, vertical/horizontal grooves, collar, and coxa vara-specific neck angle. Fixation: Cementless.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring hip joint replacement due to non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis), inflammatory joint disease (rheumatoid arthritis), functional deformity (congenital hip dysplasia), traumatic injury (traumatic arthritis, femoral head/neck fracture), or failed previous hip surgery. Specific components indicated for hemi-hip arthroplasty in patients with femoral head/neck fractures or pathologies. Constrained liners indicated for patients at high risk of hip dislocation.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A hip joint metal/ceramic/polymer semi-constrained cemented or nonporous uncemented prosthesis is a device intended to be implanted to replace a hip joint. This device limits translation and rotation in one or more planes via the geometry of its articulating surfaces. It has no linkage across-the-joint. The two-part femoral component consists of a femoral stem made of alloys to be fixed in the intramedullary canal of the femur by impaction with or without use of bone cement. The proximal end of the femoral stem is tapered with a surface that ensures positive locking with the spherical ceramic (aluminium oxide, A12 03 ) head of the femoral component. The acetabular component is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene reinforced with nonporous metal alloys, and used with or without bone cement.

Engineering evaluation demonstrated that the Origin Coxa Vara Hip Stem presents a greater challenge to femoral stem and neck fatigue testing than the previously tested Origin Hip Stem range (per K121297). The following non-clinical testing was omitted from this 510(k) because engineering evaluation demonstrated that the Origin Coxa Vara Hip Stem falls within the scope of testing submitted with K121297 for the Origin Hip Stem: - .
