Intended Use

The Riverpoint Medical Orthobutton CL is intended for use in the fixation of bone and soft tissue in orthopedic procedures requiring ligament or tendon reconstruction.

Device Story

OrthoButton CL is a bone fixation fastener used in orthopedic ligament or tendon reconstruction. Device consists of a braided ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) continuous loop attached to a titanium plate. Used by surgeons in clinical settings to secure soft tissue to bone. The device provides mechanical fixation; surgeon threads the loop through tissue and anchors it using the plate. Single-use, sterile device. Benefits include stable fixation of soft tissue to bone during healing.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Included sterilization validation (ISO 11135-1:2007), biocompatibility testing (ISO 10993-1:2009), stability/packaging testing (ISO 11607-1:2006), and simulated use usability validation (EN 62366:2008). All acceptance criteria were met.

Technological Characteristics

Materials: Braided UHMWPE loop and Ti-6Al-4V ELI titanium plate (ASTM F136). Dimensions: 10mm-60mm loop lengths. Sterilization: Ethylene oxide. Single-use. Mechanical fixation device.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures requiring ligament or tendon reconstruction for the fixation of bone and soft tissue.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.
