Intended Use
The HypnosPad of mandibular advancement devices is intended for the treatment of night-time snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults.
Device Story
HypnosPad is a prescription, home-use mandibular advancement device (MAD) for treating snoring and mild-to-moderate OSA. The device consists of a thermoplastic mouthpiece, a spatula, and a storage box. The patient performs a 'boil and bite' fitting process using the spatula and hot water to customize the device to their oral anatomy. Once fitted, the device is worn overnight (8-10 hours) to hold the mandible in a protruded position, which maintains an open airway during sleep. The device is non-sterile and intended for multiple uses by a single patient. It is used at home or in clinical settings like sleep laboratories. By mechanically advancing the lower jaw, the device reduces airway obstruction, thereby mitigating snoring and breathing arrests associated with OSA.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Evidence includes biocompatibility testing (ISO 10993-1, ISO 10993-5, ISO 10993-10), usability testing (IEC 62366), and comparative bench testing against the predicate for material properties, thermal properties, fitting process, and mechanical strength. No clinical trials were conducted.
Technological Characteristics
Thermoplastic elastomer construction; boil-and-bite custom-fit mechanism; one-piece design with upper and lower trays; non-sterile; intended for multiple-use by a single patient. Complies with ISO 10993-1, 5, and 10 for biocompatibility and IEC 62366 for usability. Dimensions: 52mm x 62.5mm x 20.5mm.
Indications for Use
Indicated for adults with night-time snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Regulatory Classification
Identification
Intraoral devices for snoring and intraoral devices for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are devices that are worn during sleep to reduce the incidence of snoring and to treat obstructive sleep apnea. The devices are designed to increase the patency of the airway and to decrease air turbulence and airway obstruction. The classification includes palatal lifting devices, tongue retaining devices, and mandibular repositioning devices.
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). The special control for these devices is the FDA guidance document entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Intraoral Devices for Snoring and/or Obstructive Sleep Apnea; Guidance for Industry and FDA.”
