ARES is a robotic-assisted system for bronchoscopic visualization. It consists of a Patient Side System (PSS) with two robotic arms, a Controller Cart, and a Master Device Workstation. The physician operates the system using a pendant controller (master-slave model) to manipulate a flexible bronchoscope. The bronchoscope features an articulated tip (4-way bending), a camera at the tip, and a working channel for irrigation and aspiration. Robotic arms provide 6 degrees of freedom, while an Instrument Drive Mechanism (IDM) provides 4 actuated axes for steering. The system transforms user inputs from the pendant into electromechanical movements of the bronchoscope via servo/stepper motors. The physician views the airway via a monitor to perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The system is designed for use by qualified physicians in a clinical environment.
