Leksell GammaPlan® is a computer-based system designed for Leksell Gamma Knife® treatment planning.
Device Story
Leksell GammaPlan is a computer-based treatment planning system for Leksell Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy. It processes inputs from neurosurgeons, radiation therapists, and physicists to calculate dosimetry for precise radiation delivery to defined volumes. New features include stereotactic reference definition from stand-alone Cone Beam CT (CBCT), mask fixation support with automatic patient position correction via CBCT, and guided treatment delivery evaluation. The system enables clinicians to plan, evaluate, and verify radiation dose delivery, facilitating targeted treatment of intracranial or other lesions while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical testing on patients was required. Evidence consists of bench testing, including module, integration, and system-level verification, regression testing, and design/usability validation performed by qualified personnel to ensure requirements and user needs were met.
Technological Characteristics
Computer-based treatment planning system for stereotactic radiosurgery. Features include CBCT integration for stereotactic referencing and patient position correction. Software-based dosimetry calculation and treatment planning. Operates as a workstation-based system for clinical use.
Indications for Use
Indicated for use by neurosurgeons, radiation therapists, and radiation physicists for planning the dosimetry of stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiation therapy treatments using the Leksell Gamma Knife.
