SMV Scientific 4.5mm Bone Screws are cortical, self-tapping metallic bone fixation fasteners; used for fracture treatment in various bones including clavicle, scapula, pelvis, long bones, and small bones. Screws are provided non-sterile; manufactured from stainless steel. Device functions as mechanical fixation hardware; implanted by surgeons in clinical settings. Output is physical stabilization of bone fractures; aids in healing process.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Testing performed per ASTM F543 including static torsion, driving torque, pullout testing, and removal torque. Results demonstrate sufficient strength for intended use.

A smooth or threaded metallic bone fixation fastener is a device intended to be implanted that consists of a stiff wire segment or rod made of alloys, such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum and stainless steel, and that may be smooth on the outside, fully or partially threaded, straight or U-shaped; and may be either blunt pointed, sharp pointed, or have a formed, slotted head on the end. It may be used for fixation of bone fractures, for bone reconstructions, as a guide pin for insertion of other implants, or it may be implanted through the skin so that a pulling force (traction) may be applied to the skeletal system.

The screws are provided non-sterile and are self-tapping. Screws are manufactured from stainless steel. ### INDICATIONS FOR USE The SMV Scientific 4.5mm Bone Screws are intended to treat fractures of various bones including the clavicle, scapula, pelvis, long bones (humerus, ulna, radius, femur, tibia, and fibula), and small bones (metacarpals, metatarsals, and phalanges). The indications for the 4.5mm Bone Screw is similar to that of the predicate devices. ## TECHNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS The SMV Scientific 4.5mm Bone Screw is made from stainless steel that conforms to ASTM F138. The subject and predicate device have nearly identical technological characteristics and the minor differences do not raise any new issues of safety and effectiveness.
