Device Story
AMT Enteral Transition Adapters facilitate connectivity between new ISO 80369-1 compliant (Enfit) enteral devices and legacy enteral feeding equipment (luer slip, catheter tip, bolus). Device consists of five adapter configurations: Male Enfit to Male Luer, Female Enfit to Female Luer, Female Enfit to Y-Port, Female Enfit to Bolus, and Male Enfit to Christmas-tree. Adapters are used by clinicians or patients in clinical or home settings to ensure compatibility during the industry-wide transition to Enfit connectors. By enabling use of existing legacy inventory with new feeding sets, the adapters prevent supply chain disruption and ensure continuity of enteral nutrition delivery. Adapters are provided non-sterile for single-user use.
Clinical Evidence
Bench testing only. Performance testing included tensile strength, fluid leakage, stress cracking, resistance to separation (axial load/unscrewing), resistance to overriding, disconnection from unscrewing, and flow testing. Biocompatibility data was leveraged from previous 510(k) K123716 for permanent (>30 days) and prolonged (<29 days) indirect mucosal contact.
Technological Characteristics
Non-sterile, single-user adapters. Materials are DEHP and Latex free. Five configurations: Male Enfit to Male Luer, Female Enfit to Female Luer, Female Enfit to Y-Port, Female Enfit to Bolus, and Male Enfit to Christmas-tree. Mechanical connection interface designed to bridge ISO 80369-1 compliant connectors and legacy luer/bolus connectors.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients requiring enteral feeding who need to connect AAMI/CN3(PS) compliant enteral devices to legacy non-ISO 80369-1 compliant enteral connectors during the transition period to new connector standards.

A gastrointestinal tube and accessories is a device that consists of flexible or semi-rigid tubing used for instilling fluids into, withdrawing fluids from, splinting, or suppressing bleeding of the alimentary tract. This device may incorporate an integral inflatable balloon for retention or hemostasis. This generic type of device includes the hemostatic bag, irrigation and aspiration catheter (gastric, colonic, etc.), rectal catheter, sterile infant gavage set, gastrointestinal string and tubes to locate internal bleeding, double lumen tube for intestinal decompression or intubation, feeding tube, gastroenterostomy tube, Levine tube, nasogastric tube, single lumen tube with mercury weight balloon for intestinal intubation or decompression, and gastro-urological irrigation tray (for gastrological use).
Special Controls
*Classification.* (1) Class II (special controls). The barium enema retention catheter and tip with or without a bag that is a gastrointestinal tube and accessory or a gastronomy tube holder accessory is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 876.9.(2) Class I (general controls) for the dissolvable nasogastric feed tube guide for the nasogastric tube. The class I device is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to § 876.9.

| | The FDA recently cleared an updated AMT enteral extension set in 510(k) K142989.<br>This extension set remains identical to our previously marketed device, but includes<br>Enfit connectors. However, launching a enteral extension sets with Enfit connectors<br>will not be simultaneous across all manufacturers and distributors. Therefore,<br>transition adapters are necessary for a limited time. |
| | As the new Enfit connectors are not backwards compatible with current luer and<br>bolus connections currently used for enteral products, AMT has designed several<br>transition adapter configurations to help users make the switch to the new<br>connections.
