Intended Use

AQUARIUS™ Gastrostomy Replacement Tube is intended for use in a well-established gastrostomy tract for feeding and/or administration of medications. May be used for gastric decompression.

Device Story

AQUARIUS™ Gastrostomy Replacement Tube is a silicone feeding tube designed for placement in established gastrostomy tracts. The device features a double-lumen design, an external retention disk, an internal retention balloon, and a distal open flow-through tip. It includes external centimeter graduations and a radiopaque marker for positioning. The device incorporates ENFit safety access ports to prevent misconnections. It is used by clinicians to deliver nutrition or medication directly to the stomach or to perform gastric decompression. The device is manufactured without natural latex, BPA, or phthalates. It is a replacement device intended for long-term access through an existing stoma.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence is supported by bench testing, including positive pressure liquid leak, stress cracking, resistance to separation (axial load/unscrewing), resistance to overriding, flow rate, dimension verification, tensile strength, simulated gastric fluid exposure, balloon burst volume, and biocompatibility evaluation per ISO 14971:2012.

Technological Characteristics

Silicone construction; double-lumen tube; ENFit safety access ports; radiopaque distal marker; external retention disk; internal balloon. Materials are free of natural latex, BPA, and phthalates. Testing conducted per ISO 14971:2012. Dimensions include 10Fr size. Connectivity via standardized ENFit enteral connectors.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring enteral feeding, medication administration, or gastric decompression via a well-established gastrostomy tract.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A gastrointestinal tube and accessories is a device that consists of flexible or semi-rigid tubing used for instilling fluids into, withdrawing fluids from, splinting, or suppressing bleeding of the alimentary tract. This generic type of device includes the hemostatic bag, irrigation and aspiration catheter (gastric, colonic, etc.), rectal catheter, sterile infant gavage set, gastrointestinal string and tubes to locate internal bleeding, double lumen tube for intestinal decompression or intubation, feeding tube, gastroenterostomy tube, Levine tube, nasogastric tube, single lumen tube with mercury weight balloon for intestinal intubation or decompression, and gastro-urological irrigation tray (for gastrological use).

Special Controls

*Classification.* (1) Class II (special controls). The barium enema retention catheter and tip with or without a bag that is a gastrointestinal tube and accessory or a gastronomy tube holder accessory is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 876.9.(2) Class I (general controls) for the dissolvable nasogastric feed tube guide for the nasogastric tube. The class I device is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to § 876.9.
