Intended Use

The Sonicision™ Cordless Ultrasonic Dissection Device is indicated for soft tissue incisions when bleeding control and minimal thermal injury are desired. Device Story

Hand-held cordless ultrasonic surgical device; consists of sterile single-use dissector component, reusable generator, and battery pack. Transforms electrical energy into high-frequency mechanical motion (ultrasonic energy) at active blade to transect, dissect, and coagulate soft tissue. Operated by surgeons in OR/clinical settings for open and endoscopic procedures. Features include clamping jaw, two-stage energy button, rotation wheel, and jaw lever. Provides hemostasis for vessels up to 5 mm. Benefits include cordless mobility and reduced thermal injury compared to traditional electrosurgery/lasers.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence demonstrated via bench testing and preclinical porcine studies. Bench testing evaluated electrical/mechanical safety (AAMI ES60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2), blade displacement/frequency, shaft deflection, and jaw force. Porcine studies evaluated burst pressures, hemostasis, dissection speed, thermal spread, and human factors/usability.

All aspects were found to be identical, with the exception of the shaft length and measurement marks. The shaft-length differences were found to not affect safety or performance through design verification and validation testing; specifically, through conformance to applicable technical design specifications and performance requirements, industry safety and performance standards, and other nonclinical testing.
