Intended Use

System consists of intramedullary fixation implants (nails, locking screws), instruments, and trays. Used for tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis. Implants inserted into medullary canal of long bones to provide fixation. Shorter length screws added to existing system. Implants made of titanium; instruments/trays made of aluminum, stainless steel, PEEK, POM, and composites. Single-use only. Provided sterile or non-sterile. Used by orthopedic surgeons in clinical/surgical settings. Output is mechanical fixation of bone segments to facilitate fusion. Benefits patient by stabilizing joints and correcting deformities.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Engineering rationale provided to demonstrate that shorter screw lengths maintain structural integrity and that existing sterilization parameters remain valid for the modified configuration.

Technological Characteristics

Intramedullary fixation rod system. Implants: TiAl6V4 titanium (ASTM F136). Instruments/trays: Aluminum, stainless steel, PEEK, POM, composite materials. Mechanical fixation via interlocking screws. Dimensions: 5.0mm tibial screws (20-24mm), 5.0mm talar screws (40-44mm), 6.0mm calcaneal screws (50-68mm).

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis due to post-traumatic/degenerative arthritis (ankle/subtalar), rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, pseudoarthrosis, severe foot/ankle deformity, instability/skeletal defects post-tumor resection, Charcot's foot, avascular necrosis of the talus, failed joint replacement, failed ankle fusion, or distal tibia fracture non-unions with tibiotalocalcaneal pathology.

This Premarket Notification is to add 5.0mm Tibial Locking Screws in 20 to 24mm lengths, 5.0 mm Talar Screws with Threaded Head in 40 to 44mm lengths, and 6.0mm Calcaneal Locking Screws with Threaded Head in 50 to 68mm lengths to the system. The shorter length screws being added by this Special 510(k) are made from implantable grade TiAl6V4 titanium (ASTM F136) which is the same material as the predicate screws. The design of the shorter screws being added by this Special 510(k) are the same as the predicate screws in that the head designs of the outer and inner diameters and thread are the same. The only difference is that the modified screws are shorter in length.
