Intended Use

The OP300 dental panoramic, cephalometric and cone beam computed tomography x-ray device is intended for dental radiographic examination of teeth, jaw and TMJ areas by producing conventional 2D x-ray images as well as x-ray projection images of an examined volume for the reconstruction of a 3D view. The unit must only be used and operated by dentist and other qualified professionals. The unit must only be used to take panoramic. cephalometric and 3D images of the dento-maxillofacial complex of the human skull. It must not be used to take images of any other part of the human body.

Device Story

OP300 is an extraoral, software-controlled dental X-ray system. It captures 2D panoramic, cephalometric, and TMJ images, and 3D projection images via cone beam rotation around the patient's head. Input data consists of X-ray projections captured by CMOS flat panel detectors. The system reconstructs 3D volumes from these projections using Filtered Back Projection (FBP) or Algebraic Reconstruction Technique (ART). Operated by dentists or qualified professionals in clinical settings, the device produces digital images for viewing on 3D software. Clinicians use these images to visualize the dento-maxillofacial complex, aiding in diagnostic and treatment planning decisions. The device benefits patients by providing high-resolution diagnostic imaging of the skull and jaw structures.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical testing was conducted. Evidence consists of non-clinical bench testing, specifically an image quality preference study comparing the subject device to the predicate. Internal reviewers and external dental professionals evaluated reconstructed images from identical patient data. Software validation was performed to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Technological Characteristics

Extraoral dental X-ray system; CMOS flat panel detectors; 0.5mm focal spot; 3D field of view 61x41mm or 61x78mm; 200-degree viewing angle; 80-350 µm voxel size. Energy source: pulsed X-ray (3D mode). Connectivity: digital output for 3D viewing software. Reconstruction algorithms: FBP and ART. System footprint: H161-241cm x D1390cm x W97-193cm. Weight: 205-250kg.

Indications for Use

Indicated for dental radiographic examination of teeth, jaw, and TMJ areas in patients requiring 2D panoramic, cephalometric, or 3D cone beam computed tomography imaging of the dento-maxillofacial complex. Contraindicated for imaging any body part other than the human skull.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A computed tomography x-ray system is a diagnostic x-ray system intended to produce cross-sectional images of the body by computer reconstruction of x-ray transmission data from the same axial plane taken at different angles. This generic type of device may include signal analysis and display equipment, patient and equipment supports, component parts, and accessories.
