Intended Use

The VACUETTE® SAFETY Infusion Set is a single-use, sterile, winged blood collection needle bonded to a flexible tubing with a luer connector. The VACUETTE® SAFETY Infusion Set is used for blood collection and/or the short-term infusion of intravenous fluids. The winged needle is designed with a safety shield, which can be activated to cover the needle immediately following venipuncture to aid in the protection against accidental needlestick injury.

Device Story

The VACUETTE® SAFETY Infusion Set is a sterile, single-use winged needle device connected to flexible tubing with a female luer adapter. It is used by healthcare professionals for blood collection or short-term IV fluid administration. The device features an integrated safety shield; after venipuncture, the user activates a latch mechanism to slide the shield over the needle, where it locks in place to prevent accidental needlestick injuries. The device is non-reusable, as the safety mechanism cannot be deactivated without destroying the needle. This modification adds new needle gauges and tubing lengths to the existing product line.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Winged needle bonded to flexible tubing with female luer adapter; includes integrated sliding safety shield mechanism. Materials are consistent with predicate device. Single-use, sterile.

Indications for Use

Indicated for blood collection and short-term intravenous fluid infusion in patients requiring venipuncture. To be used by trained healthcare professionals only.

Regulatory Classification

Identification
