Intended Use

CIVCO Patient Positioning Devices are used to aid in the support and positioning of patients during MR, radiological, and other procedures.

Device Story

Patient positioning and immobilization devices for radiotherapy procedures; includes Bellyboard and SBRT accessories (transfer systems, plates, straps). Devices support patient during MR and radiological imaging. Constructed from non-magnetic, plastic, and fiberglass materials. Used in clinical settings by healthcare professionals. Provides stable patient positioning to facilitate accurate imaging and treatment delivery. MR conditional labeling applied due to observed image artifacts in specific SBRT components.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. MR compatibility testing performed per ASTM F2182-9, F2119-07, F2052-06, and F2213-06. Results demonstrated safety for RF heating, magnetic induced torque, and displacement force. Biocompatibility testing completed for patient-contacting materials. Image artifact observed in SBRT Patient Transfer System addressed via MR conditional labeling.

Technological Characteristics

Non-implanted, non-magnetic plastic and fiberglass construction. MR conditional. ASTM standards used: F2182-9 (RF heating), F2119-07 (image artifact), F2052-06 (displacement force), F2213-06 (torque). Sold non-sterile; reusable. No electronic or software components.

Indications for Use

Indicated for support and positioning of patients during MR, radiological, and other procedures.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A magnetic resonance diagnostic device is intended for general diagnostic use to present images which reflect the spatial distribution and/or magnetic resonance spectra which reflect frequency and distribution of nuclei exhibiting nuclear magnetic resonance. Other physical parameters derived from the images and/or spectra may also be produced. The device includes hydrogen-1 (proton) imaging, sodium-23 imaging, hydrogen-1 spectroscopy, phosphorus-31 spectroscopy, and chemical shift imaging (preserving simultaneous frequency and spatial information).

Special Controls

*Classification.* Class II (special controls). A magnetic resonance imaging disposable kit intended for use with a magnetic resonance diagnostic device only is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 892.9.
