Intended Use

When the endotracheal or tracheostomy pilot tube no longer maintains cuff inflation pressure, the needle of the BE 409 Pilot Tube Repair Kit is inserted into the cut pilot tube. The cuff can then be re-inflated in the usual manner. Such a repair can deter the need to replace the entire endotracheal or tracheostomy tube because of a damaged pilot tube. This device is intended for sale by or on the order of a physician. The BE 409 Pilot Tube Repair Kit is intended for single patient use.

Device Story

BE 409 Pilot Tube Repair Kit restores integrity to damaged endotracheal or tracheostomy pilot tubes; prevents need for tube replacement. Kit includes swaged needle with molded tab, micro-bore tubing, catheter with Luer-Lock fitting, and 10cc syringe. Physician inserts needle into cut end of damaged pilot tube; attaches syringe to inflation port to re-inflate cuff. Used in clinical settings by healthcare professionals. Benefits patient by avoiding re-intubation.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data; bench testing only.

Technological Characteristics

Kit includes swaged needle with molded tab, micro-bore tubing, catheter with Luer-Lock fitting, and 10cc/mL syringe. Fits pilot lines with 0.032 to 0.050 inch inside diameter. Single patient use.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring repair of endotracheal or tracheostomy pilot tubes that fail to maintain cuff inflation pressure due to damage, to avoid full tube replacement.

Regulatory Classification

Identification
