## Intended Use

The CUSA NXT Inferior Forward Bone Tip is an accessory to the CUSA NXT Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator System that is indicated for use in surgical procedures where fragmentation, emulsification and aspiration of soft and hard (e.g. bone) tissue is desirable, including Neurosurgery, Gastrointestinal and affiliated organ surgery, Urological surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, General surgery, Orthopedic surgery, Gynecological surgery, Thoracic surgery, Laparoscopic surgery and Thoracoscopic surgery.

## Device Story

Accessory tip for CUSA NXT Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator System; attaches to Selector 24 kHz Neuro Short Handpiece. Device uses ultrasonic mechanical energy to fragment, emulsify, and remove target tissue while preserving delicate structures like vessels and ducts. Features abrasive surface oriented inferiorly/distally to facilitate access in bottom dead center or inferior orientations. Operated by surgeons in clinical settings (OR). System includes console for power/control, handpiece, single-use tip, and suction/irrigation components. Output is mechanical vibration for tissue removal; provides precise dissection. Benefits include efficient tissue removal with reduced trauma to surrounding structures.

## Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data. Testing included electromechanical verification (frequency, stroke, lateral movement, power), lateral load robustness, dry flue operation, accelerated stress bone cutting, and thermal rise measurement during tissue aspiration. All tests met acceptance criteria.

## Technological Characteristics

Ultrasonic surgical aspirator tip; 24 kHz operating frequency; 0.0120 inch max stroke; 20° bend angle. Materials: Titanium 6AL4V Grade 5 (tip), Silicone (flue), Ultem (shroud). Longitudinal vibration mode. Single-use, sterile. Connects to CUSA NXT console. Mechanical principle of operation.

The CUSA NXT
System is an ultrasonically vibrating surgical device which, in
combination with irrigation and aspiration, fragments, emulsifies and
removes unwanted tissue. The device allows the selective dissection of
target tissue while preserving vessels, ducts and other delicate
structures. The system consists of a console which provides control
and power functions, a surgical handpiece which provides ultrasonic
mechanical energy, a single use tip, and a suction/irrigation system
(manifold tubing and cooling water canister). |

This configuration
facilitates the use of the system in procedures where it is necessary for
practitioners to orient the surgical tip in the bottom dead center or
inferior orientation. |
