Device Story

PenLase is a portable, battery-operated semiconductor diode laser system for oral soft tissue surgery. Device uses AlGaAs semiconductor chips to generate 810±10 nm infrared laser radiation. Laser power (0.7W or 1.7W) is delivered to the treatment site via disposable, bendable fiber tips. Operated by clinicians in a dental or clinical setting; no external cords or foot switches required. Charging station recharges batteries. Laser energy facilitates incision, excision, hemostasis, coagulation, and vaporization of soft tissue. Benefits include improved access via bendable tips and cordless portability for multiple procedures per charge.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Compliance verified with IEC 60825-1 (laser safety), IEC 60601-2-22 (therapeutic laser safety), IEC 60601-1 (general safety), IEC 60601-1-2 (EMC), ISO 10993-5 (cytotoxicity), and ISO 10993-10 (irritation/hypersensitivity). No clinical data provided.

Technological Characteristics

Semiconductor diode laser (AlGaAs); 810±10 nm wavelength; 0.7W/1.7W output power. Battery-powered, cordless, portable handpiece. Disposable fiber tips (400um). Standards: IEC 60825-1, IEC 60601-2-22, IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, ISO 10993-5, ISO 10993-10. Biocompatible materials per ISO 10993.

Indications for Use

Indicated for oral soft tissue surgery including biopsies, hemostasis, ulcer treatment, frenectomy, frenotomy, gingival procedures, abscess drainage, operculectomy, papillectomy, fibroma removal, crown lengthening, sulcular debridement, tissue retraction, and vestibuloplasty.
