Intended Use

Treatment of perforations of root canal and furcation caused iatrogenically or by caries lesions . Via canal treatment of root perforation due to internal resorption . Surgical treatment of root perforation due to internal resorption . Periapical surgery with reverse filling . Pulp capping . Pulpotomy (removal of affected coronal pulp to preserve vitality of remaining pulp tissue) . Apexogenesis (induction of root development in vital teeth with an inflamed coronal pulp). . Apexification (induction of formation of a mineralized barrier at the root tip of young permanent teeth with incomplete root development and a necrotic pulp)

Device Story

MTA Angelus is a mineral trioxide aggregate cement for endodontic root repair. Clinician mixes powder and liquid to form a colloidal gel; applied to site of perforation, root tip, or pulp chamber. Material solidifies to create a physical barrier. Used in dental clinics by dentists/endodontists. Benefits include sealing of root canal system, preservation of pulp vitality, and induction of mineralized tissue formation.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Performance testing conducted for setting time, solubility, radiopacity, and dimensional changes in accordance with ISO 6876 Dental Root Canal Sealing Materials.

Technological Characteristics

Mineral trioxide aggregate cement. Powder and liquid components form a colloidal gel that solidifies. Evaluated per ISO 6876 standards for setting time, solubility, radiopacity, and dimensional stability.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients requiring endodontic repair, including treatment of root canal/furcation perforations (iatrogenic or caries-related), internal resorption, periapical surgery with reverse filling, pulp capping, pulpotomy, apexogenesis, and apexification in permanent teeth with incomplete root development and necrotic pulp.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A root canal filling resin is a device composed of material, such as methylmethacrylate, intended for use during endodontic therapy to fill the root canal of a tooth.
