Intended Use

STERRAD® SEALSURE® Chemical Indicator Tape is a process indicator [(Class 1 Process Indicator (ISO 11140-1)] intended for use by healthcare providers to secure nonwoven sterilization packs and wraps to be sterilized in the STERRAD® Sterilization Systems: MODEL CYCLE STERRAD® 100S Standard STERRAD® 50 Standard STERRAD® 200 Standard STERRAD® NX™ Standard Advanced STERRAD®100NX™ Flex EXPRESS The color of the STERRAD® SEALSURE® Chemical Indicator Tape changes from red to gold (or lighter) when exposed to hydrogen peroxide and is intended to differentiate between processed and unprocessed loads.

Device Story

STERRAD® SEALSURE® Chemical Indicator Tape is a Class 1 process indicator tape used by healthcare providers to secure non-woven sterilization packs. The tape features a chemical indicator that changes color from red to gold (or lighter) upon exposure to hydrogen peroxide gas plasma. This visual change allows clinicians to differentiate between processed and unprocessed sterilization loads. The device is used in clinical settings during the sterilization workflow. It provides a simple visual confirmation of exposure to the sterilization process, aiding in the management of sterile supplies and ensuring that only processed packs are utilized.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. Studies confirmed chemical indicator functionality, tape adhesion strength, post-processing color stability, biocompatibility, and shelf life. Testing demonstrated the tape successfully responds to hydrogen peroxide exposure in the STERRAD® 100NX™ EXPRESS cycle.

Technological Characteristics

Class 1 chemical process indicator tape (ISO 11140-1). Material: Adhesive tape with hydrogen peroxide-sensitive chemical indicator. Principle: Chemical color change (red to gold/lighter) upon exposure to hydrogen peroxide gas plasma. Form factor: Tape for securing sterilization wraps. Sterilization compatibility: STERRAD® Sterilization Systems (100S, 50, 200, NX, 100NX).

Indications for Use

Indicated for healthcare providers to secure nonwoven sterilization packs and wraps for processing in STERRAD® Sterilization Systems. Used to differentiate between processed and unprocessed loads via color change (red to gold/lighter) upon hydrogen peroxide exposure.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

Biological sterilization process indicator: A device intended for use by a health care provider to accompany products being sterilized through a sterilization procedure and to monitor adequacy of sterilization. The device consists of a known number of microorganisms, of known resistance to the mode of sterilization, in or on a carrier and enclosed in a protective package. Subsequent growth or failure of the microorganisms to grow under suitable conditions indicates the adequacy of sterilization. Physical/chemical sterilization process indicator: A device intended for use by a health care provider to accompany products being sterilized through a sterilization procedure and to monitor one or more parameters of the sterilization process. The adequacy of the sterilization conditions as measured by these parameters is indicated by a visible change in the device.
