Intended Use
The Synthes Dentoalveolar Bone Fixation System is intended for use in non-load bearing applications for maintaining the relative position of and/or containing bony fragments, bone grafts (autograft or allograft), or bone graft substitutes in reconstruction of maxillary and/or mandibular areas, including the dentoalveolar ridge.
Device Story
The Synthes Dentoalveolar Bone Fixation System consists of titanium alloy cortex screws (1.3 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm) and commercially pure titanium plates and meshes. The system is used intraorally by surgeons to stabilize bone fragments or graft materials during reconstruction of the maxillary and mandibular regions, including the dentoalveolar ridge. The device functions as a mechanical fixation system; plates and meshes are secured to bone using the cortex screws. It is intended for non-load bearing applications. The system provides structural support to maintain the position of bone grafts or fragments, facilitating healing and reconstruction. No software or algorithms are involved.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical testing was performed to support this submission. Substantial equivalence is supported by non-clinical mechanical testing comparing the subject device to predicate devices, including measurements of axial pullout, shear strength, failure torque, bending strength, and bending stiffness.
Technological Characteristics
System components include cortex screws (titanium alloy Ti 6Al 7Nb) and plates/meshes (commercially pure titanium). Screws are available in 1.3 mm, 1.5 mm, and 2.0 mm diameters with self-tapping or self-drilling tips. The system is a mechanical fixation device; no energy source, software, or connectivity features are present.
Indications for Use
Indicated for patients requiring reconstruction of maxillary and/or mandibular areas, including the dentoalveolar ridge, for the purpose of maintaining the relative position of or containing bony fragments, bone grafts, or bone graft substitutes in non-load bearing applications.

We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
