Intended Use

The Eclipse Treatment Planning System (Eclipse TPS) is used to plan radiotherapy treatments for patients with malignant or benign diseases. Eclipse TPS is used to plan external beam irradiation with photon, electron and proton beams, as well as for internal irradiation (brachytherapy) treatments. In addition, the Eclipse Proton Eye algorithm is specifically indicated for planning proton treatment of neoplasms of the eye.

Device Story

Eclipse TPS is a computer-based software device used by trained medical professionals to design and simulate radiation therapy treatments. It ingests patient medical images (CT, MR, PET) to facilitate treatment planning. The system provides tools for image registration, segmentation, and dose calculation for external beam (photon, electron, proton) and brachytherapy. It supports complex workflows including stereotactic frame localization, biological optimization, and 3D conformal planning. The software transforms clinical inputs into dose distributions, DVH plots, and treatment parameters, which are reviewed by clinicians to finalize treatment plans. This process enables precise radiation delivery, potentially improving therapeutic outcomes for patients with malignant or benign diseases.

Clinical Evidence

Bench testing only. No clinical data provided.

Technological Characteristics

Software-based treatment planning system; operates on networked workstations; supports DICOM RT 3.0 interoperability. Features include image registration (CT/MR/PET), segmentation (manual/automatic), and dose calculation algorithms (Convolution, AcurosXB, Monte Carlo, Pencil Beam). Energy ranges: Photons 1-50 MV, Electrons 1-50 MeV, Protons 50-300 MeV. Compliant with AAPM TG 43 for brachytherapy.

Indications for Use

Indicated for patients with malignant or benign diseases requiring radiotherapy. Supports external beam (photon, electron, proton) and internal (brachytherapy) irradiation planning. Proton Eye algorithm indicated for ocular neoplasms.

Regulatory Classification

Identification
