Intended Use

The BridgePoint Medical Stingray™ Orienting Balloon Catheter is indicated for directing, steering, controlling, and supporting a guide wire in order to access discrete regions of the coronary and peripheral vasculature.

Device Story

Stingray Orienting Balloon Catheter is single-use, over-the-wire, dual-lumen percutaneous catheter. Facilitates placement, support, and steering of guidewire into coronary/peripheral vasculature. Features two side-ports connected to central guidewire lumen, identified by radiopaque markers, allowing guidewire to exit at angle. Distal tip contains small non-compliant balloon for fluoroscopic orientation. Used by physicians in clinical settings. Provides mechanical support and directional control for guidewire navigation; assists in accessing difficult vascular regions. Benefits patient by enabling precise guidewire placement during interventional procedures.

Clinical Evidence

No clinical data. Substantial equivalence supported by bench testing and biocompatibility evaluations. Bench testing included tensile, torque, kink resistance, balloon burst, balloon fatigue, crossing profile, and guidewire redirection. Biocompatibility testing included cytotoxicity, sensitization, intracutaneous injection, acute systemic toxicity, pyrogenicity, hemolysis, and thrombogenicity.

Technological Characteristics

Dual-lumen percutaneous catheter; non-compliant balloon at distal tip; radiopaque markers for orientation. Materials include modified balloon durometer and adhesive. Connectivity: None. Energy source: None (mechanical). Sterilization: Not specified. Software: None.

Indications for Use

Indicated for directing, steering, controlling, and supporting a guidewire to access discrete regions of coronary and peripheral vasculature. No specific age or gender restrictions provided.

Regulatory Classification

Identification

A percutaneous catheter is a device that is introduced into a vein or artery through the skin using a dilator and a sheath (introducer) or guide wire.
