Intended Use
The 8 Channel Cardiac Phased Array Coil is a receive-only RF Coil designed for use with 1.5T MRI systems manufactured by GE Healthcare. The indications for use include imaging of the heart, mediastinum, and pelvis regions for 2D and 3D Magnetic Resonance imaging. The nucleus excited is hydrogen.
Device Story
The 8 Channel Cardiac Phased Array Coil is a receive-only radiofrequency (RF) surface coil designed for use with GE Healthcare 1.5T MRI systems. It captures hydrogen proton signals from the heart, mediastinum, and pelvis. The device utilizes individual phased array coil elements, each with an integrated preamplifier, to enhance image quality and support parallel imaging techniques. It is operated by trained MRI technologists or radiologists in a clinical setting. The coil provides raw signal data to the MRI system, which the system reconstructs into diagnostic images for physician review. These images assist clinicians in diagnosing pathologies within the targeted anatomical regions. The device is a passive hardware component; it does not perform automated analysis or clinical decision-making.
Clinical Evidence
No clinical data provided; bench testing only.
Technological Characteristics
Receive-only RF surface coil; 8-channel phased array configuration; integrated preamplifiers; optimized for parallel imaging; tuned for hydrogen nuclei; compatible with GE 1.5T MRI systems.
Indications for Use
Indicated for 2D and 3D MRI imaging of the heart, mediastinum, and pelvis regions in patients requiring hydrogen-nucleus magnetic resonance diagnostic procedures using GE Healthcare 1.5T MRI systems.
Regulatory Classification
Identification
A magnetic resonance diagnostic device is intended for general diagnostic use to present images which reflect the spatial distribution and/or magnetic resonance spectra which reflect frequency and distribution of nuclei exhibiting nuclear magnetic resonance. Other physical parameters derived from the images and/or spectra may also be produced. The device includes hydrogen-1 (proton) imaging, sodium-23 imaging, hydrogen-1 spectroscopy, phosphorus-31 spectroscopy, and chemical shift imaging (preserving simultaneous frequency and spatial information).
Special Controls
*Classification.* Class II (special controls). A magnetic resonance imaging disposable kit intended for use with a magnetic resonance diagnostic device only is exempt from the premarket notification procedures in subpart E of part 807 of this chapter subject to the limitations in § 892.9.

#### Dear Mr. Lehtonen:
We have reviewed your Section 510(k) premarket notification of intent to market the device referenced above and have determined the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosure) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application (PMA). You may, therefore, market the device, subject to the general controls provisions of the Act. The general controls provisions of the Act include requirements for annual registration, listing of devices, good manufacturing practice, labeling, and prohibitions against misbranding and adulteration.
If your device is classified (see above) into class II (Special Controls), it may be subject to such additional controls. Existing major regulations affecting your device can be found in Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 800 to 895. In addition, FDA may publish further announcements concerning your device in the Federal Register.
Please be advised that FDA's issuance of a substantial equivalence determination does not mean that FDA has made a determination that your device complies with other requirements of the Act or any Federal statutes and regulations administered by other Federal agencies. You must comply with all the Act's requirements, including, but not limited to: registration and listing (21 CFR Part 807); labeling (21 CFR Parts 801 and 809); medical device reporting (reporting of
